Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What do you cover in your prenatal visits?
During our first prenatal visit, we'll cover different comfort measures and birth positions to help you have a more comfortable birth and pregnancy. If you have a life partner or additional birth companion joining you during your birth, then I'll demonstrate to them counter pressure, massage, and emotional techniques on how to support you during your birth. We also cover baby's positioning during pregnancy and labor and how we can use positioning of the birthing person, and gravity, to make birth as comfortable as possible for both the birthing person and the baby.
I also like to cover the logistics of the Birth Day Party; signs of labor we're looking for, pressures you may feel during birth, and when to call me over to support you. We'll discuss prodromal (i.e. "warm-up labor")/early/active labor coping techniques and discuss which techniques you'll feel are more relevant to your wants and needs.
We'll also add some extra time to talk about the early postpartum. We can set up any tools in your home that you anticipate your family needing (ex: bassinet, diaper changing, sterilizers, breast pumps, etc.), and we'll cover common growth spurts and mental leaps that your baby will make, what to expect, and how to cope through them.
What do you do during your postpartum visits (Daytime)?
We'll first talk about your birth story and the journey your child made in to the world. From there, we'll talk about feeding baby and what has worked for your family whether that be breastfeeding, pumping, exclusively pumping, formula feeding, or a mix.
