About me
My Philosophy
I am passionate about birthing people's right to informed choice. My practice centers on creating a space that is positive and peaceful no matter what situation arises.
I am supportive of all kinds of births! Home births, birthing center births, hospital births, natural births, medicated births, c-births - you name it! As long as the birthing person is comfortable in their choices then I'm a happy doula.
To me, a positive birth experience can change a whole community; empowering new parents to create happy and healthy new families. While the journey of birth piqued my interest to explore this world, the bond parents create with their babies is my fuel!
From a spiritual perspective, foxes are fun, passionate guides through the wild. Birth can be the same way and more - I would be honored if you invited me to show you how!
Support of BIPOC Communities
“Julie is graceful and calm and supportive every step of the journey. I'm grateful to have had her by my side during this birth! Postive and encouraging.” Lacey P.
"My birth experience was very long and she was by my side the entire time. Her voice and words were encouraging and sweet." Jessica C.
My Story
My name is Julie Le. I moved to Austin, TX when I was a wee one and I'm a proud protector of Keeping Austin Weird. I'm the youngest of 5 children and grew up around baby nieces and nephews. My parents are Vietnamese, with my two oldest brothers born in Vietnam, a brother and sister born in California, and me, the odd duck (er, fox), born in Kentucky.
I went to McNeil High School and completed a bachelor's in biology from St. Edwards University. I'm originally trained as an entomologist and evolutionary biologist. Before I became a doula, I did research in eye and mammary gland genetics!
My interest in birth work started with a desire to learn more about midwifery. As a natural caregiver, I wanted to explore options that allowed me to serve others during transformational periods of their lives. Rather than a drastic change from a career in biology, I decided that doula work would allow me the flexibility to explore the birth world while still sticking to my scientific roots. In 2015, I started Mama Fox Doula!
In my free time, I love to do arts & crafts {mainly sewing and crocheting}, wood work, hike, camp, roller skate, watch TV, and dance!
